Fox News shocked that Harvard students think the US is a greater threat to world peace than ISIS. Students who don’t agree with Fox are ‘twisted’, elitist and wrong apparently.
Did they miss the part where these kids said that ISIS wouldn’t exist without Imperialist intervention in areas like the Middle East? (I’m not singling out America because I’m British and we’ve been fucking up the world since long before America has)
I love how the Harvard students give strong arguments on why the U.S. (and its allies, of course, such as Canada and Western Europe) is one of the biggest threats to world peace and all Fox News can say is “this—this is just a FAD”
i really don’t know what a fortnite dance is. i see a little fella doing a dance i’m like “rock on” no idea where he learned it. don’t care. his moves are fuckin raw
all i know is gen z is gonna shred at school dances while all my white ass high school could do was the cha cha slide
the athiesm of women/people of color/lgbt people is absolutely different than the athiesm of cishet white men and i feel like people forget that a lot
how?
Don’t have spoons for long explanation – also this is only speaking for christianity – but religion has been a force of oppression for women, people of color, and lgbt+ people and the rejection of the religion is often coupled with the rejection of how religion treats them.
I’ll also say that abuse survivors are included in this because it is a reaction to and an attempt to reconcile how (christian) god would allow abuse to happen.
For straight white men atheism is usually rooted in intellectual and rational superiority complexes. It’s a “i am more rational and intelligent than you, how can you believe in something so obviously fake” thing as opposed to a reaction to a societal institution that upholds their oppression and abuse.
Women, PoC, Queer people, immigrants, trauma survivors, etc: How can I believe in something that teaches you to be cruel? How can I trust the books that tell me of peace and love, when you use your faith to hurt me? How can a loving god allow [insert injustice of the day]?
White Men: I, as an Intellectual, eschew silly superstitions that say I might, someday, after my death, face one (1) single consequence.
I know we’ve been over this but this is such a bad take on so many levels. straight white men can be traumatized by religion or even just disagree with the existence of organized religion on grounds other than thinking they’re smarter than religious people. likewise, women, lgbt people, and people of color can be religious or atheists for a wide variety of reasons that you may or may not agree with. ascribing philosophical beliefs as a blanket statement to “straight white men” and “everyone else” denies the fact that individual people are different from one another and have the agency to choose their own beliefs for their own reasons. saying that your own view is that of everyone who isn’t a straight white man is, in fact, intellectually narcissistic, much like the white male atheist straw man in this argument. as a side note, I’m amazed by @bairnsidhe’s omission of the “straight” factor, given how many gay, bi, & trans white men are oppressed by organized religion.
