pro-tip for trans allies: never ask a trans person what their dead (birth) name is! they changed it for a reason, and hearing that name can be extremely triggering. and if you happen to know it, do not go around telling everyone what it is! their name may be something they’re trying very hard to forget about, or they want to start fresh as the identity they truly are.
