there was a note in my aeneid translation…. like that nisus and euryalus scene where they murder a bunch of sleeping dudes is a parallel to diomedes and odysseus stealing the horses in the ilaid… does that mean diomedes/odysseus is canon im vergil’s world?? that’s why when he takes dante in the divine comedy to that circle where ody and diom share a flame like that was dante paying respects to the relationship’s validity in vergil’s mind
