hmm my feelings about that “guy kicks pro life girl” video are that maybe the best way for men to help contribute to women’s rights causes isn’t by physically assaulting other women, but hey that’s just me. Also sort of disappointing to see a man who kicked a girl be getting heralded as a hero while the woman in the background with the sign counterprotesting in a nonviolent way is the one actually doing the right thing in this situation but of course the violent man gets all the praise. Let’s be clear: no-platforming nazis is one thing, but that’s not what this was. This wasn’t a riot, it was a street corner protest. I’ve personally attended many pro-choice counterprotests in very similar situations, and doing something like this only escalates tensions and opens the door for the other side to become more violent in return. And when they do, this man won’t be the one who gets hurt. It will be the people trying to access reproductive services who will be targeted and harassed and assaulted. Kicking a woman doesn’t help the pro-choice movement. It doesn’t help women. It doesn’t help anyone who might need an abortion. It’s the type of self-centric, attention-grabbing stunt that men who insert themselves into feminist spaces always do. Feminist spaces do not exist to give men a way to commit “woke” violence against women. From a woman who’s been on the front lines of this shit many times before, i’m begging you please not to trust or celebrate men like this.
