holmes secretly believes in true love despite how much he knows about how badly things Can go, and he wants it but thinks its not worth it if its not perfect and wont settle for less but is skeptical it will ever really happen to him and has accepted being alone and mildly cynical until he gets what he wants
watson wants to believe in true love but believes that romance and love just arent as good as theyre cracked up to be in the movies, he thinks love is just what most people consider settling and he has resigned himself to a life of lackluster romantic love because he doesnt think he can get what he wants
they both blunder when they meet their soulmate by knowing theyre soulmates but being too afraid to mess it up (h) or by thinking theyre foolish for believing in something like that at all
but they both do find out true love is real and is better than it is in the movies
