i’m sympathetic to those who are concerned about millie bobby brown but also maybe we should all take a second to think about why a young white child actress saying, “i am friends with a black man who is a former child tv star, and he gives me career advice and advice about boys, and we texted each other ‘i miss you’ the other day” elicits reactions like, “she is a victim of grooming who needs to be protected from this sexual predator” and if anyone would be reacting this way if she made the exact same comment about, say, one of the sprouse twins, or if there’s maybe some longstanding tradition of black men being regarded as predatory for completely innocent interactions with white women, and if maybe that’s playing into people’s unconscious biases wrt how this situation is being interpreted.
