You know what i hate? Watching self care slowly becoming a capitalised, ‘trendy’ thing on social media. I keep seeing face masks and bath bombs on instagram being promoted as self care owo try this and drink water!!

Self care is a multitude of things but often the most effective self care doesn’t involve the physical. Write out all those worries you have. Talk to a friend. Have a little cry. Break up a toxic relationship. Drop the class that makes you depressed.

Sorry but a lot of mental health struggles won’t be fixed with a nice lavender infused facewash owo. Treat yourself yes, but remember that self care is more than that and that looking after yourself doesn’t have a price tag. I hate seeing all these posts that make it seem like the only way to self care is to spend a fortune on lush products. The more self care becomes ‘trendy’ the more people can’t empathise with it, the less relevant it becomes, and its importance gets lost because people don’t see it as an essential.

Its like putting a bandaid on a broken leg and these instagrams and blogs who tell you that facemasks will make you feel 150% better and cure your depression either dont understand how mental health works or dont care because they’re trying to sell you something.

Don’t let your mental health be capitalised.
